Indiana and Kentucky Yaz, Yasmine and Ocella Lawyers

Drospirenone is a unique birth control medication marketed under the brand names Yaz and Yasmin and under the generic name Ocella. It's a fourth generation synthetic Progestin oral contraceptive that has also been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and moderate Acne.

When used as a contraceptive, Drospirenone works to prevent fertilization. However, it also works to prevent the attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterus in the rare instance that fertilization does occur.

What are the dangers of Drospirenone?

Several states have class action lawsuits pending against the manufacturers of birth control medications containing Drospirenone. The complaints allege that drugs such as Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella cause a high risk of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. There have also been several reports that link the chemical to the sudden death of otherwise healthy individuals.

The FDA has already ruled that the marketing campaigns surrounding the medications were deceptive and misleading because they referred to the drugs as safe alternatives to traditional birth control methods. However, the manufacturers had knowledge that Drospirenone could cause life-threatening injuries in thousands of healthy women.

Will the FDA recall products containing Drospirenone?

With an astounding 25,000 lawsuits from users of Yasmin/Yaz currently pending, consumers are certainly indicating that products containing Drospirenone should be recalled, but the FDA has yet to do so.
